Finding out that you are going to be a parent can be very scary.  This is a whole new territory and you will need to learn fast how to look after that helpless little baby. (By teenparentingmagazine )

Having a baby is also the most joyful time of your life and one of the best ways to enjoy those wonderful precious moments of your newborn babies first days in life, is to make sure that you are prepared.

Being prepared for the birth and also for the early days and months can make things so much easier for you when the baby does make her entry into the world.

You don’t realise just how much you need for a new baby until you have one.  Babies are a lot of work and can cost a fair bit of money, especially at the beginning getting everything set up for the baby.  It can help to do things a little bit at a time throughout your pregnancy.

Depending on your living situation, you may or may not have a separate room for your baby.  Even if you don’t have a separate room to prepare as a nursery, you can still prepare a section of your room for your baby.

One of the main things your baby will need is a crib to sleep in.  If you can’t afford a new crib there are many second hand baby shops where you can get a reasonably cheap one.  Second hand cribs are usually in good condition as babies don’t do a lot of wear and tear at their age.

It can be fund decorating the crib for the baby with some nice baby bedding and some soft toys.

Your baby will also need a car seat and a pram.  These things can also be purchased second hand if need be. Parents can also give good advice.  Be sure if you purchase any of these things second hand that they still meet the safety standards.

They are the big items and there are also many smaller items.  Your baby is going to need a whole new wardrobe.  Babies often wear more than one item of clothing each day due to leaking nappies or spilling after feeds.  You don’t want to overdo the amount of clothes you buy for the baby though as they do grow out of them very quickly.

You will need diapers and lots of them and also baby wipes.  Put together a basket with the little necessities like diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, changing mat, nail clippers and any other little bits and pieces you think of.

Your body will be going through hormonal changes as well as not getting enough sleep if your new baby wakes up a lot during the night.  So it can be a good idea to prepare yourself some meals before you go into hospital to have the baby.  Freeze some meals so you can easily defrost and heat them up then that will give you one less thing to worry about when the baby is born.

The final thing to organise and a very important thing is to have a good GP.  If you have a family GP yourself then you can take the baby their, but if you don’t then it is a good idea to find yourself a good one.  Babies can get colds and flu’s just like anyone else and it can be good if you have a family doctor that will get to know your baby as he grows.

Being organised will help you to enjoy your baby and lessen the stress of those first few weeks.  Relax and enjoy your baby knowing that everything you need is right there.
